Rhino HySafe Completes Manufacture of VERTEX-1 Explosion Relief Panel for UK Project

Rhino HySafe has recently completed manufacturing a VERTEX-1 explosion relief panel (ERP) for a significant project in the UK. The project required a robust and reliable solution to safeguard a hydrogen compressor and its associated equipment, which are mounted in a modified ISO container. The VERTEX-1 ERP was the ideal choice, as it is specifically designed to fit on modified ISO containers.

Key Features of the VERTEX-1 Explosion Relief Panel

The VERTEX-1 ERP provides a reliable, passive, and rapidly acting safe path for blast overpressure, flame, and combustion products, in the unlikely event that dangerous levels of overpressure accumulate within the container due to a hydrogen leak from the equipment and subsequent ignition.

VERTEX-1 panels are suitable for use across various deflagration hazards associated with flammable gases, hydrogen, dust, and hybrid mixtures.

The VERTEX-1 panel prevents potential damage and enhances the operation’s safety by directing the overpressure and associated elements away from the equipment.

Up to three cassettes can be installed on a 20-foot (5.9-meter) container, or six cassettes on a 40-foot (11.19-meter) container, providing clear vent areas of up to 8.91m2 and 17.82m2, respectively. Vents can be installed at any elevation, including the roof.

VERTEX-1 panels are DnV full-scale explosion tested, conform to the requirements of ISO 19880-1, and are designed in accordance with NFPA 68 for ultimate safety and peace of mind.

Manufacture at Rhino’s Northwest Facility

The VERTEX-1 ERP was manufactured at Rhino HySafe’s facility in the Northwest, which was chosen due to its high production levels and state-of-the-art capabilities. This facility’s advanced manufacturing processes and stringent quality control measures ensured that the VERTEX-1 panel met all project requirements and industry standards.

Part of a Comprehensive Safety Solution

This project also includes the provision of a hinged blast door to be fitted to the ISO container. Rhino HySafe has selected a Rhino-HBL design from our sister company, Rhino Doors, to meet the facility’s needs. The blast door will be covered in detail in the second part of this article series, highlighting its features and the added layer of protection it provides.

Rhino HySafe’s ability to deliver advanced and reliable safety solutions is exemplified through successfully manufacturing and deploying the VERTEX-1 explosion relief panel.

With a comprehensive safety approach that includes collaborative efforts with our sister company, Rhino Doors, Rhino HySafe is proud to continue setting the benchmark for safeguarding critical infrastructure and enhancing operational safety in the hydrogen industry.
